A GLIMPSE INTO A GLAMOROUS PAST
The Old Barn Theater
Celebrating our legacy of hosting Hollywood elite, The Old Barn Theater sits in the center of the Parry Lodge complex. Nearly 100 years old, it once stabled famous horses for their celebrity riders. Roy Rogers’ “Trigger,” the Lone Ranger’s “Silver” and Tonto’s “Scout” are just a few of its former equine guests.
Now converted into a rustic western venue, The Old Barn Theater showcases some of the great films made in the area for our guests.
Viewings in the Old Barn Theater are free and open to the public, with shows starting at 7pm. So, come join us in the Old Barn for a rootin’ tootin’ Kanab classic on the big screen from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
1976 – Color
Known as one of Clint Eastwood’s best films, The Outlaw Josey Wales chronicles the journey of Josey Wales on his way West in the days after his wife and child were murdered by Terrill (Bill McKinney). After refusing to surrender to the Union soldiers that killed his family, Wales is now running as a wanted man with the help of a few Confederates to avoid capture and seek revenge for his family’s death.

Movie History in Kanab
The Parry brothers assisted with the transportation needs of the first movie made in Southern Utah starring Tom Mix in “Deadwood Coach” in 1924. They enjoyed the movie business and profited from their experience. In 1931 they opened Parry Lodge in Kanab so they could feed and house as well as transport the casts and crews. Armed with hundreds of photos of the area’s scenic locations, they made several trips to Hollywood calling on studio executives and locations scouts.
Their efforts were wildly successful. Over the next 50 years, Kanab area scenery and residents were used in over 100 featured films and hundreds of television episodes. Most of those productions made Parry Lodge their home away from home.
